Weather: Sunny and cool Comments: We went to an estate sale and a thrift store in Ft Collins today Amount Spent: $9.50
Pieces on the left are part of an Ikea halogen light kit (see drawing below). We have some lights we bought years ago that will work with this kit. Originally priced @ $8.50, Joe talked the thrift store cashier down to $5 because the kit is missing some pieces. 3 hand-embroidered napkins from the estate sale--$1 each Home-ec Text/Cookbook from 1960--$1 paperback book--50 cents
This drawing shows how the lighting system we bought works. Missing from the kit is one of the black endpieces, also the bulb/shade parts of the actual lights. We think we can get this working using some of the pieces we already have and some spare hardware.
Close-up of the napkins, they are really pretty!
We are changing furniture to accommodate our upcoming class, dining room chairs and the couch and loveseat will be replaced by some roll-about office chairs. The chairs were delivered today so we unpacked 2 of them to test them out, the other 4 will remain boxed until we get the furniture they are replacing moved out. Attie helped log the cuuh today from the top of the box stack, we lifted him and Bella up there so they could check things out from a new perspective. Bella didn't stay up there long, but Atticus spent quite awhile relaxing on the high vantage point.
Weather: sunny and cool Comments: Went to an estate sale and then stopped at 2 Goodwills, all in Ft Collins Amount spent: $23.41
4 silk shirts from Goodwill for Joe--4.99 each
And as it turned out, it was a day for acquiring flatware! We got the ladel at the estate sale for 75 cents, all the other pieces came from Goodwill @ 10 cents each. The modern-looking pieces at the top right hand corner are from Ikea, the wooden handled knives are Dansk, the 4 butter knives at center bottom are Condor (airlines), the 5 spoons bottom right are grapefruit spoons, and the knife to the right of the ladel has a wonderful, balanced feel when gripped. All are pieces that just caught my eye and seemed like they would be useful. Note: not shown are 2 other grapefruit spoons which I gave to Pat.
Today's cat picture features Bella, who has only recently started spending time on one of the perches in the office. She and Addie trade off naptimes on this perch, only Rita sleeps on the other one.
Weather: warmer than it's been lately, but quite windy and wintry despite being a sunny day Comments: got a late start and hit an estate sale in a beautiful '50s ranch-style brick house, then spent some time browsing at the Loveland Goodwill store Amount spent: $9.50
My apologies for the strange angle of the shot, fans! Here is the cuuh we found at the estate sale:
Reader's Digest Illustrated History of WWII (hardcover)--$2
unopened pkg of Thermore quilt batting--25 cents
2 rolls of Wonder-Under (for fusing fabric)--25 cents each
cookbook full of someone's recipe collection--$1
little back of pin backs (for gluing on to something to make a pin)--50 cents
5 aluminum measuring spoons (50s or 60s vintage)--50 cents for all
And here is an all-cotton shirt we found for Joe at Goodwill--$5.00
A small and boring haul, at least from the cats' point of view. By the time I got around to logging the cuuh all 4 had lost interest in the treasures and were off on other pursuits. So I snapped a quick pic of each of them "off duty" to document their activity (or lack of!) while I was logging.
Rita was snoozing on a perch in the computer room
Felix was sleeping on a chair in the computer room
Bella was napping on her favorite blanket on the bed
And Atticus was in the kitchen getting a bite to eat. Can you tell he doesn't like the camera's flash?
Weather: cold and windy Comments: We shopped at two Goodwills (Loveland and the new Ft Collins store) and Find Thriftstore (new location) today. Thrift stores = higher prices than garage sales, but in January you have to take what you can find! Although today's is a pricey haul, I still think we did pretty well. Amount spent: $62.84 + tax
Atticus is thrilled to be helping with the cuuh logging once again! tabletop grill set, new in box--$3.99 L'equip 221 juicer--$5.99 bundle of fabric--$3.99 box of cams/stitchplates for a Singer Touch 'n Sew--$2.99 LED lantern (closed up for storage)--$3.99 2 cordless phones--$2.99/both cigarette lighter adaptor--$.99 box of tape for Joe's dymo labler--$1.99
The boys were showing Bella how to help with the cuuh logging, and she caught on quickly! Note Felix supervising and the lantern, now in it's "up" position and turned on
reversable window fan--$3.99
Atticus checking out the clothes we bought (notice he is trying not to look at the camera because he doesn't like the flash!) 1-gray zippered polarfleece vest (Joe)--$3.99 2-tropical print short-sleeved silk shirt (Joe)--$4.99 3-patchwork short-sleeved Tommy Bahama silk shirt (Ellen)--$4.99 4-striped short-sleeved silk shirt (Joe)--$4.99 5-blue long-sleeved silk shirt (Joe)--$4.99 6 +7-plaid flannel lounging pants (Ellen)--$3.99 each
